St Peter’s Grounds
The church grounds include the famous ‘Ring of Gold’, a profusion of daffodils inside and outside the churchyard wall. A wide variety of daffodils has been planted to ensure that the flowering season is extended. The grounds are a scheduled Historic Monument.St Peter’s Field:
St Peter’s is set within a large field which is used by the church for outdoor services like Messy Church, as well as for social events such as barbeques and fetes. It is a favourite venue with families and for local walks (with or without dogs!) and a site for community events like the Addingham Environmental Group Information Day. There are long-distance walkers too because the route of the Dales Way passes through the field.
St Peter’s Churchyard:
The care with which the churchyard is tended reflects the love and respect we bear for those who have gone before us into heaven. Earlier graves, dating from Anglo Saxon times, extend beyond the current churchyard wall. Grave space is now virtually full, but we have recently dedicated a further area for the interment of ashes. The beauty of these surroundings helps to make this ancient site a place full of peace for all who visit.
The churchyard also contains Commonwealth War Graves.
St Peter’s is committed to keeping the churchyard tidy and well maintained. Christmas wreaths are removed in the New Year, and Remembrance Day poppies are removed at the start of December.
We must comply with the regulations which govern Church of England churchyards, which apply to all burials and interments here and cover everything from headstone materials and permitted inscriptions to what may be placed on graves. You are strongly advised to read the regulations before deciding on a headstone and before placing anything at a grave.
