Music & Bells

Music is such an important part of our church life, a support in sorrow and in joy, at Festivals and in our day-to-day duties and is a way of sharing our faith.

Choir:

The choir sings at Sunday morning services, at Evensong (or Compline) each month and for weekday evening services for church festivals. Special music is sung at Christmas and Easter.

We practise together on Friday evenings twice a month (sometimes more often!) at 7.00 in church. We learn and practise music in a range of different styles and aim to sing in harmony when numbers allow. New singers are always welcome, no audition is required and the ability to read music is not essential. Do get in touch (contact@stpetersaddingham.org.uk 01943 830 306) if you are interested.

Music Group:

The Music Group provides music at the Sunday Morning with St. Peter’s informal service on the third week of each month, and if there is a Celtic Eucharist on the fifth Sunday morning.

The group comprises vocalists, keyboard, flute, bass guitar, 12 string guitar and occasionally light percussion, sometimes with a Clarsach (electric Celtic Harp) as well. Our usual style is Folk/New Age with strong Celtic influences, but we also include Blues, Taize, American Folk, Hebrew, Caribbean, and Slow Rock, aiming to play a mix of traditional and modern worship songs and hymns in a wide variety of musical styles to suit a less formal liturgical context.

Organ:

St Peter’s has a 2-manual and pedal organ of 39 speaking stops. The organ was first installed at St Peter’s in 1861 and was extended in 2002.

Bells:

St Peter’s Bell Tower has 6 bells, rung by an enthusiastic band of ringers. Bells are rung for services, weddings, festivals and celebrations.

Ringing practice is 7.30 – 9.00pm every Wednesday. If you would like to join the bell ringers, learn how to ring, know more about the bells, or want to visit as a ringing group, please contact our Parish Administrator on 01943 830 306 email contact@stpetersaddingham.org.uk
